Information about the internship program:   Summer 2021 will be HCC’s 31st year of providing students with life-changing, career-launching internships. In addition to a powerful educational experience, HCC interns discover or affirm the health career direction that best suits them, find mentors, secure job offers and increase their competitiveness and connections for graduate health and professions schools. Through partnerships with leading organizations, HCC provides internships in a variety of settings including but not limited to: hospitals, community health centers, medical groups, consulting firms, health plans, local health departments, governmental agencies, community-based organizations, and advocacy groups.  During the internship, students gain valuable real-world experience and mentorship and complete meaningful projects. Interns also advance their professional skills and personal development through HCC workshops and trainings. HCC provides extensive exposure to health careers and connections to health professionals through workshops and events guiding students towards their authentic health career path. Interns become part of the HCC family of over 3800 alumni who are health leaders and professionals in health care, public health, mental health and other health sectors and are working to advance health improvement and equity. Information about me that could be helpful for the paper: – I spent most of my childhood in my original country with my grandparents before moving to the United States in 2011. My grandfather lost his left leg due to the bomb explosion during the War. The injury was so severe that the medical team needed to amputate his leg (above the knee) and provided him with a wooden prosthetic leg. listening to his stories about how the medical team, therapists helped him inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare. I am currently a senior at university studying kinesiology with an emphasis on inclusive physical activity in communities. I plan to graduate in fall 2021 and apply for the Occupational Therapy master program. Reason to become an Occuaptional therapist: I think despite circumstances, all people deserve to have the best quality of life. I want to become a person that could make different and assisting people toward gaining independence, confidence, and most importantly to help them reach their best quality of life just like how the therapists helped my grandfather. I have an opportunity to join an internship at an Adapted Fitness Center, where I lead work out classes for older adults and work 1-1 on an older adult client. The main goal with the client is to help her lose weight. I face obstacles with finding the right modifications aligned with her limitation so she can easily perform the exercises. However, with the help of my head intern and research, I was able to come up with the appropriate modification that she can perform the exercises. This internship opportunity would help me become a better self. gaining the necessary skills for my future career so I can help other people.
