Policy Evidence and Smart Practices

In Part III of A Practical Guide for Policy Analysis, Bardach talks about what he calls “smart practices”, “those opportunities that have the latent potential to generate something of public value relatively cheaply”. Re-read the examples of these practices that he shares with us in the text. Consider your selected policy issue (LACK OF ACCESS TO QUALITY CARE IN RURAL AND URBAN AREAS) and identify ONE “smart practice” that can be associated with it. This could be a program or health care initiative that is impacted by your selected policy and that has developed a practice that has managed to generate high “value” at low “cost” or risk. How has your smart practice “taken advantage of some latent opportunity” to create value “on the cheap”? Give as much detail as possible as to why your selected practice would meet Bardach’s parameters? Include ONE online scholarly resource and one citing from each course textbook that you have used for the substantiation of your position on this question. Be sure to present background information on this resource and explain how the information available supports your policy position.
