Personal Marketing Plan

MKT 101 Personal Marketing Plan For this class, you will complete a personal marketing plan, where you will analyze yourself and how you plan to strategically market yourself after college. How will you market all the qualities and skills that make you the best choice for a job offer or for the bank loan to start your new business? Thinking about it now helps prepare you for the future. This marketing plan is all about you, and who knows you better than you? With that in mind, you should have all the answers, right? It isn’t as easy as it sounds. Just as companies have to go through critical thinking about themselves, the marketplace, and the competition, you will need to do the same for this plan. By following the outline provided, you should discover your strong talents and also areas that may need improvement. You will also think about your target market, in this case, the types of companies you would like to work for or the type of company you would like to operate. And you will need to consider how to position yourself in the minds of potential employers or lenders, depending on the path you choose. Last, you will need to talk about your personal marketing mix, your four Ps. • Executive Summary: Provide a paragraph summarizing your qualifications as the ideal candidate. In this paragraph, include either the job title and company for your dream job, or the name and type of business you hope to start after college. • Situation Analysis: o Mission Statement o SWOT Analysis o Competition In this section, you will write your personal mission statement that tells us who you are as a candidate. Next conduct a SWOT analysis on yourself. This could be difficult, because talking about our strengths can be just as difficult as talking about our weaknesses. Finally, briefly discuss who your competition might be. In the case of a marketing position, your competition may be other qualified candidates. In the case of a new business, there may be other businesses in the area that offer the same products and services you do. • Marketing Strategy: o Objectives o Target Market(s) o Positioning o Marketing Mix (Product, Price, Place, and Promotion) What are your objectives for this marketing plan, other than finding a job or opening the doors to your new business? Who is/are your target market(s)? In this case, what companies would you like to work for one day, and where are they located? If you are writing your plan about starting your own business, who is your target market for customers? Next, how will you position yourself in the mind of a potential employer and interviewer, or a bank lender? What is the key word(s) or phrase you want them to think of when they are reviewing all the candidates and trying to determine which one stood out the most as the best potential employee for the job or recipient of the business loan? Last, describe your marketing mix – you as the product, what is your realistic price or desired salary, where would you place yourself (the Upstate or somewhere outside of the area), and how will you promote yourself to potential employers? Write your plan so that I can easily tell which parts of the outline you are discussing. For example, you may choose to use the outline items as subheads above your information to connect your marketing plan logically. Your personal marketing plan should be a minimum of three full pages and a maximum of five pages long, double-spaced, 12-point type, 1” margins. (Two pages plus two lines is not three pages.) Again, since you are talking about yourself and how you plan to present yourself to potential employers, this minimum length should not be a challenge. You need to use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation in the paper, as I will be grading you on accuracy in these areas in addition to your content. This personal marketing plan counts for 10% of your grade in this class. Not only is it an important grade for class, but it is also important to you when you start your job search, helping you evaluate your best and weakest areas. By doing this now, you have time to work on anything that needs it so you will be ready when the time comes to present yourself.
