Provide a rationale for your responses.     1- Comment on this SAMPLE RESPONSE to the prompts:  2- Write your own.  Do you believe that offering specialized cultural services helps a college to unite, or does it create more exclusion?   Specialized multicultural services programs can help unite the students on campus and in society and I strongly believe that learning about the diversity and cultural traditions brings groups of students together rather than dividing them.  A cultural service can help bridge differences as a first step in appreciating the importance of multicultural identities in the lives of the students. Every campus environment has a distinct identity based on a few aspects ranging from student subcultures and history to geographical location and traditions Schuh, Jones &Torres, 2016).  College missions are like community colleges in that they exist to serve students and the surrounding communities, the growing numbers of international students attending US colleges and universities require schools to be more conscious of the cultural norms and expectations and the political and social dynamics of their countries of origin and to consider how those influence their learning and the demands from technology along with the increased diversity within the student population will require more specialized professional development Schuh, Jones &Torres, 2016).  Student services should develop multicultural programs to reach out and socialize with students who have backgrounds different from their own and challenge students to think in more complex ways about identity and history, and avoid cultural stereotyping and help the students unite on campus, it creates a whole new culture totally unique to that campus.    As a student affairs/services professional, what changes or additions would you like to see in student affairs/services? Developing a better understanding of diversity in the campus climate arms student affairs professionals with important insights into the source of these conflicts and how to engage in meaningful ways as institutional leaders generate solutions (Schuh, Jones &Torres, 2016).  Student affairs should develop cultural competence programs and policies that enable success in a cross-cultural environment which encourage students, faculty, and administrators to respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, languages, classes, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions, and other diversity factors.  Student affairs engagement in campus diversity has the potential to foster cognitive development, critical thinking, perspective-taking, and civic engagement (Schuh, Jones &Torres, 2016).  Student affairs/services involvement in multicultural programs must aim to create campus climates that align with their missions and identities which represent a commitment to student success in college.      Reference Schuh, J.
