Choose an article to read from one of the two choices below: “Mental Health and Recovery”: This article discusses tornado recovery and the impact on survivors’ mental health. “Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse”: This article is located on pages 652-654 of your textbook. It discusses the potential spread of a zombie virus across the country. Google the CDC (Centers for Disease Control). What is it? Why is the CDC especially well equipped to publish on the topic of the article you chose? Google the author of the article you chose plus the letters CDC. Who is this person? What special knowledge does he have that would let him write about the topic of the article? What is the main point of the article? What supporting details does the author use to support that point? Choose one of the following sets of questions to answer based on the article you chose: If you chose the Zombie article: Who is Khan’s audience? Is his technique of using a zombie apocalypse as an example effective? Why or why not? If you chose the Mental Health article: Who is Cooley’s audience? Is his technique of using his Joplin patient as an example effective? Why or why not? Type a citation for the source you chose. Use Write a Citation for a work from an anthology (03:46) if you chose the Zombie article or use the MLA Citation for a Website (03:09) if you chose the Mental Health article. Below your citation, write one paragraph (at least 7-8 sentences) answering the above questions. This paragraph must include an accurate summary, as well as a discussion of the credibility of the source and the author. Reread with a critical audience in mind. Make sure that all words and phrases are your own (not plagiarized). Look at the relationship between your sentences. Integrate coordination and subordination structures from page 430. Submit your paragraph and evidence of prewriting to your instructor by attaching it to the WA3 folder in the WA3 Assignment Dropbox. If you choose to do your prewriting (answering the prewriting questions) on paper, take a picture or scan and attach that to the Dropbox as well. All Writing Assessments should be in MLA format (Times New Roman, 12 point font, double-spaced, running header, and four-line heading). (Formatting an MLA paper)
