Discrimination Among Black Transgenders

How to write an annotated bibliography:  Thesis Statement: At the top of your Annotated Bibliography, I MUST see your thesis statement.  I cannot evaluate the sources you’ve used unless I see what you’re arguing.  Your thesis statement must be at the top of the page followed by 4 sources (one of which must be scholarly and come from the SMC Library Database).  The purpose of an Annotated Bibliography: Annotated Bibliographies are a collection of sources, each with an explanation of the credibility of the source, a summary, and an explanation of how the source will be used.  I want to see the progression of your research which means I want to ensure you’re headed in the right direction and are relying on credible sources.   What sources can I use? Videos – must be non-fiction like a documentary or instructional video Articles from online news sources (The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The New York Times, PBS, Axios, NPR, Reuters, Slate, Vox, The Guardian, ProPublica, Time Magazine, The New Yorker). These are just a few to give you ideas.  If you ever have questions about a source, ASK ME ABOUT IT.   Don’t forget about local news sources.  These can be VERY useful when you want to get on-the-ground information from local sources (e.g. The Mercury News (Links to an external site.) – the paper I grew up with).  Peer-reviewed scholarly articles from the Library Database (from databases such as JSTOR, EBSCO, Academic Search Complete).    For this assignment, you MUST USE AT LEAST ONE article from the Library Database. What is credibility and how do I evaluate it? A source is deemed credible if it goes through a vetting process by editors and experts in the field.  When using scholarly sources from an academic journal found in the library database, you can filter your search to include only Peer Reviewed articles.   Similarly, YOU build YOUR credibility by relying on credible sources.  If you want to write about soccer, don’t go to a source who knows only about tennis.  You’re looking for expert opinions, so go to experts in the field you’re researching.   What about the news? Traditional periodicals like The New York Times or The Atlantic are accessible online. When a writer publishes in these sources, their work is vetted by editors.  While a staff writer may not be an expert in the field they’re writing about, the writer builds her credibility by relying on credible sources.  This means that if she’s writing about astrophysics, for example, she relies on sources like Neil deGrass Tyson and not laypeople.  In your essay, if the writer himself is not widely known, you may want to emphasize the publication in the sentence.  For example:  Erica Jong, reporting for PBS News, notes that “climate research shows….” (Jong).   What should my annotated bibliography include? Your thesis statement must be at the top of the page followed by 4 sources (one of which must be scholarly and come from the Cerritos Library Database).  For EACH source, you must include the following information: MLA citation in perfect format How is this source credible?  Explain. What does this source say?  Summarize in at least 100 words by highlighting the information relevant to your argument. How will you use this source?
